Crazy is Contagious

I have been following the 2016 Presidential Election. Am I crazy? I may be by the time we actually have an election. I was in the UK during the Brexit decision. The day before everyone was sure that it wouldn’t pass. How could it? Everyone you talked to seemed to know assuredly that it would not, could not pass. That such a decision was ‘backward thinking’ and that ‘we couldn’t go back to the way things were. Things are how they are.’ Just ‘wishing that the UK had a vibrant manufacturing sector would not make it so.’ And then it happened.

The whole of a nation sucker punched by it’s own electorate. It’s leadership stunned like it had been tazed by Nanny at the pub. How? How in the world? And it was very public too. The whole world was watching and wondering. The shame of the spectacle. Oh Dear.

Why?

Simple. People are emotional. Even the stiff upper lip class of the UK couldn’t suppress the urge. The electorate had their fill of humble pie as part of the Euro. They saw mass immigration. They heard the new accents to their culture and they pushed back. Was it smart? No. It’s going to cost them a fortune. Was it in keeping with the historical migration traits that the UK has demonstrated within the last millennia? No. The UK has been everywhere on the globe and they have welcomed everyone to their shores. Was their culture under attack? Well – no – If you have ever met someone who is English there are no two ways about it. A Brit is a Brit is a Brit. Tea? Yes, please. Just ask any Scot. But they had “felt” threatened. They had “felt” the reach of the Eurotocracy. How dare “they” tell “us” what we can and cannot do. It was an emotional decision.

Did they regret it? You bet they did. They even called it a Regrexit. But damn if they didn’t stand firm on the decision and double down. ‘The electorate has spoken’. A Prime Minister steps down. Nobody wanted to fill his shoes. And everyone wondered if a do over was possible. It wasn’t and didn’t happen.

Can I get a vaccination!

So, I come home to America. Ah, sweet land of liberty and home the craziest candidate ever. So crazy he may even win. Not because of his wisdom, not because of his bellicose demeanor, not because of a “plan” to make America great again. Because people are emotional, sentient beings. They look around and see what everyone else has got and they want a piece too. And when they don’t get it – well – it has to be someone else’s fault. It couldn’t possibly be because they didn’t think ahead and actually tax the 1%. The blame lay where the jobs were. They love a bit of Walmart and it’s low low prices and endless cascade of junk.

Where’s that junk come from and why is it so cheap? No No No That couldn’t possibly be the issue. We should have made that junk in America. Really, because it would be of higher quality? Because we could make cheaper? I tell you why. We didn’t make that junk in America because slave wages are illegal in America.

But I digress. Crazy is contagious. The media frenzy – frenzy – think about it? Frenzy is another word for crazy. And the media, well, despite their best intentions – the media built Trumpism. They wove lead and smallpox into this malicious blanket and then went around waving it across the country. I get a lot of news from a lot of sources. And it was a ratings coup. Sold a lot of paper. And now – that crazy – is at the forefront. Just like the Brexit. We watch the polls and say it won’t happen. Couldn’t happen. But it happens throughout history. Hystery. People are emotional. They will cut their nose off to spite their own face. Is that crazy? Am I crazy to say so.

Please – this November – vote with your head. Don’t get mental. Vote what you know actually addreses the real problem of America: Poverty muted to the tune of excess. Hillary Clinton is the sober one. There’s a method to her process. She is the logical, thoughtful, deliberate and sane candidate who will take charge with compassion and deliver reason.

So don’t go crazy voting. Take your feet to the polls, think rationally and have confidence. Emotional roller coasters usually pass when you step away from the ride.
